Working on a patterned ridge

I served my apprenticeship with a Master Thatcher in South Devon, spending a year labouring and a further two years at Knuston Hall, the rural training and craft centre that was the only thatching training centre of it's kind in the world, and is now sadly no more.

I returned to work with the Master Thatcher who trained me until his retirement, at which point I ventured out into the world as a thatcher in my own right.

Since then, I have worked on a wide variety of projects in Devon where I am based, the Home Counties, and as far afield as Hawaii and mainland USA. Each project has been a pleasure, and has taught me a little more about thatching. There's always something to learn...

I think thatching is a perfect mixture of physical and creative endeavour, and each project I undertake is unique and I always try and bring out the best character of your home through it's roof, as my style is sympathetic to the nature of thatched buildings.

My relationship with you is hugely important to me, and I always keep you up to date with what I'm doing and what stage the work is at. Owning a thatched property can be an expensive business, so honesty is also very important. If your roof doesn't need work doing I will tell you, and give you an accurate idea of what work will be needed in the future. This will allow you to plan in good time and avoid any unwanted surprises!

Please feel free to contact me, as I am always willing to discuss thatched roofs, whether it be their condition, problems you have, or the simplest question you might want the answer to!
